Panels run on light, not heat
Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not warmth. In fact, panels are slightly more efficient in cooler temperatures — a crisp, clear winter day can be excellent for production. Heat doesn't help panels; light does.
Cloudy and rainy days
Panels still produce on overcast days, just less — typically a reduced fraction of their sunny-day output, depending on how heavy the clouds are. And rain has an upside: it rinses dust and pollen off your panels, which actually helps them perform better once the sun returns.
What really matters: annual production
Your savings are based on how much energy your system makes over the whole year, not any single day. Long summer days bank plenty of production, and your utility's net-metering or net-billing credits help balance the shorter days of winter. A properly sized system accounts for all of this from the start.
